A journalist with Port Harcourt-based Niheria Info radio station, Kofi Bartel's, is currently recuperating in hospital after being allegedly tortured by personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Rivers State. Bartel's said he suffered a swollen knee after he was hit sevwrall times with wooden bars by the policemen during an incident at Mgbuoba in the Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of the the state. He explained that trouble started on Tuesday when he noticed that the SARS personnel wanted to arrest a boy, whose mother was selling bean cake(Akara) along the road. Bartels told Southern City News through a text message, " I drove out of my compound to see them trying to arrest a boy, who lives in the area. His mum fries akara for a living. I went to plead with them, but hesitated at a point and chose to take a shot of their bus and the number plate. "I was given the beating of my life. Nigeria has been dragged to the international court by Switzerland over the detention of a tanker vessel for over a year and four months. The ship, crew and cargo have been under detention off Port Harcourt. In a statement, the Swiss Foreign Ministry disclosed that it had since May 21 requested the International Tribunal in charge of the Law of the Sea to order Nigeria to release the tanker vessel, its crew and cargo. The tanker vessel was arrested for entering Nigerian waters illegally and trafficking on diesel. However, the captain of the ship had denied the allegations, saying he had all papers covering him and the transactions. Some cre members, except four Ukrainians, had already been allowed to leave the ship which has the capacity for 5,500 tonnes of cargo. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said the ship and the cargo had been losing their value, " causing increasing damage to the companies involved ." Source: Punch Newspaper

There was multiple attacks on military bases in Borno state carried out by Boko Haram Insurgents on Monday. According to Security sources, the insurgents overran three of them and stole weapons. Fighter believed to be from the Isamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), the IS-linked faction of Boko Haram, stormed four bases from Friday through Sunday in the latest spate of attacks targeting the army, sources from the military and militia said. No immediate details on casualties as at when this information was reported. The insurgents made a failed attempt to seize a base in the town of Dikwa on Sunday, following a predawn attack. The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries on Monday has indefinitely suspended the 'Pastor' of its Life Camp area branch in Abuja, David Onyekachukwu, over an indecent relationship with a 16-year old girl. The church has come out to refute that Onyekachukwu is "not an ordained pastor" and has been arrested by the police. The MFM premised the indefinite suspension on its investigation which established that the 'Pastor' raped the girl and consequently resulted in pregnancy. The suspect, was said to have volunteered to provide shelter and also conduct deliverance on the girl after she was accused of witchcraft, but thereafter took advantage of the vulnerability of the girl, repeatedly. A Nigerian by name, Adili Ejike, was a very lucky man after he escaped death following the decision of Singapore's supreme Court to void his earlier conviction for drug-related offences. According to Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Ministry in Abuja on Wednesday, this is the first time in Singapore that a Nigerian convicted of possession of illicit drugs and sentenced to death would be set free. The statement read in part, " Mr. Adili Chibuije Ejike earlier sentenced to death for importing nearly two-kilogramme of methamphetamine has been granted an acquittal by Singapore's Supreme Court and released with no outstanding charges. The body of a personal steward of the Borno State Governor was on Monday seen hanging lifeless on a tree at the State Government House. Many were shocked as they gathered to watch the lifeless body of the Steward by name, John Achgwa, dangling on a tree at the back of the Presidential Lodge at the center of the Borno State Government House in a Maiduguri. The cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained as at when this was reported. His colleagues who spoke to journalist said he had maintained unusual quietness since he resumes for work on Monday. One of them disclosed that he didn't utter a word since morning but he just kept to himself. "We were together till about 2pm until he suddenly disappeared", he said. Twenty-three persons have been killed on Tunga and Kabaje Villages, Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area by suspected bandits on Tuesday as confirmed by the Police. Confirming this incident to News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Mohammed Shehu, said " It is true that the bandits killed 23 persons in the attack. An attack aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force has bombed Bula Korege area of Bornu State on the fringes of Sambisa Forest, during a meeting of Boko Haram Terrorists. The attack which were coordinated by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole, reportedly killed scores of the insurgents.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered that upcoming musician, Azeez Fahola, Alias Naira Marley, be remanded in the prison custody. The judge made the remand order on Monday morning shortly after the musician was arraigned before him on 11 counts, bordering on credit card fraud.

It was gathered that some unknown gunmen abducted three travellers at  Auga Akoko on the Kabba-Ise Akoko Expressway in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday. According to a source, the victims, who were men and whose identities had not been ascertained, were abducted from ther Toyota Corolla car and a Mitsuibishi pick-up van, while travelling on the highway.

The Lagos Police said one suspected traffic armed robber was killed on Saturday during a crossfire between a gang of robbers and the police in the Okokomaiko area of the state.. The Lagos Police Command Spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, saying that another member of the gang was arrested while others escaped. According to Elkana, on May 17, at about 10:20pm, a team of policemen from Okokomaiko Police Station, on surveillance patrol intercepted a gang of traffic robbery suspects at Cassidy Bus stop, Okokomaiko.

A man named Babatunde Olagesin has been in Police Custody for allegedly killing his father, Taiwo Olagesin with a cutlass. Report has it that the suspect had wanted to leave home for Oshodi, Lagos State around 6am, but was disallowed by his father, who insisted that the suspect would accompany him elsewhere.

There was tragedy in Agbado area of  Ogun State as a 19 year-old apprentice welder, Kehinde Adeoye murdered his friend Lukman Olawunmi, aged 17. Report revealed that Adeoye and Olawunmi, who were learning how to make cans, had an issue over an umbrella and a sum of N200, which led to the incident.
